Dr. hab., professor and researcher of the ethnic and cultural history of the Greeks of the Azov region, as well as other ethnic groups of the region
About me
I am a specialist in the history of Mariupol and the gastronomic culture of the Mariupol Greeks. My doctoral thesis was titled “Ethnic Specificity of the Greeks of the Ukrainian Azov Region,” and my habilitation work focused on “The Greeks of the Azov Region: Ethnonational Processes and the Transformation of Traditional Culture.” From 1996 to 2001 and again from 2006 to 2012, I served as the Dean of the Faculty of History at Mariupol State University. I have also been a Visiting Professor at the International Hellenic University (Greece, Thessaloniki) and the Ionian University (Greece, Corfu).
Since 2017, I have been a professor at Donetsk National Medical University. Starting in 2022, I became a Visiting Researcher at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies at the Foundation for Research and Technology (Greece, Crete, Rethymno), and since 2023, I have also been a part-time professor at the National Aviation University in Kyiv. I have participated in numerous research, cultural, and educational projects and am the author of 138 publications.

In 1990 I graduated from Donetsk State University and started working as a history teacher and a deputy headmaster of the school.
In 1993 I started working at Mariupol Institute of Humanities as a senior lecture of the department of historical disciplines.
In 1997 I defended a Candidate’s Dissertation “Ethnic specifics of the Spiritual Culture Greeks of Ukrainian Priazovye” at specialized Academic Council D.01.67.01. at the institute of national affairs and politics of National Academy of Science, Branch of Study 07 00 05 “Ethnology”.
In 1998 I was appointed the position of dean of the History Department at Mariupol State University.
In 2001-2004 I was a doctoral student at Kyiv National University of Taras Shevchenko. After returning from the doctorate, I was appointed the position of dean of the History Department at Mariupol State University (2005-2012).
In 2007 I got PhD “The Greeks of Priazovye: ethno-national processes in the scope of transformation of traditional culture” at specialized Academic Council D.26.001.01 at Kiev National University of Taras Shevchenko, Branch of Study 07 00 05 “Ethnology”.
In 2008, by the decision of the Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, I was awarded the scientific title of associate professor.
Since 2008 I have been a professor at the Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy of Mariupol State University.
From 2009 to 2011 the participant of the Specialized Scientific Councils for the defense of dissertations, the member of the Specialized Academic Council at Nikolaev State University named after Suhomlinskiy, Branch of Study 07.00.05 – ethnology (historical sciences) and 07.00.06 – historiography, source study, special historical disciplines.
In 2013 I received the academic rank of Professor with the decision of Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and already in 2017 I got the position of professor at the Language and Humanities department №3 at Donetsk Medical University. Also I read a lecture course as Special Invited Professor at International Hellenic University (Greek Republic, Saloniki) and (Greek Republic, Kerkira).
From 2017 till now I have been a member of the Expert Council of the Ministry of Education of Culture and Science of Ukraine on the issues of conducting the examination of scientific dissertations.
During 1996-2011 I was the organizer of ethnographic expeditions and the head of ethnographic and folklore field research in the south of Ukraine.

The main trends of scientific research are history of peoples in Ukraine, ethnology of peoples in Europe, ethnic history, ethnopolitical processes, traditional culture, traditional medicine, history of medicine, local history, political and legal processes.
